PARTIALITY AND INJUSTICE

Today’s Gist and Gospel reflected on two viral incidents in Nigeria involving air travel—one with a female passenger who ended up in prison after allegedly assaulting a flight attendant, and another with a popular musician who disrupted a flight but was only banned temporarily. These events sparked public debate about fairness and double standards: why should one offender face prison while the other walked away with a lighter consequence?

From Scripture, the lesson drew parallels with James 2, where the church was warned against showing partiality. God hates injustice in any form—whether in families, workplaces, or society. The call was clear: Christians must uphold equity and fairness, treating all people the same regardless of wealth, fame, or background. True righteousness and national progress can only thrive when justice is applied without bias, in line with Jesus’ command to “do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”
