LOVE FOR THE DEAD
Far too often, people reserve their love, appreciation, and generosity until someone has died. This lesson challenges that unhealthy mindset by showing how society frequently neglects people while they are alive, only to shower them with glowing tributes, lavish burials, expensive caskets, and grand ceremonies after they are gone. Drawing from Ecclesiastes 9:4–5, the lesson reminds us that the dead neither know nor experience these displays of affection, making such acts meaningless to the one who has passed away.
Instead, the lesson calls on us to celebrate, encourage, support, and care for people while they are still alive. Genuine love is demonstrated through timely kindness, gratitude, and practical help—not through extravagant funeral expenses or emotional tributes after death. A life that honors God is one that values the living, comforts the grieving without burdening them, and expresses love when it can still be felt and appreciated.
